We returned from Italy to find Amsterdam alive and sunny! After a cold and dreary winter, it seems that everyone has crept out of their cramped canal houses and flocked to the terraces and patios around the neighbourhood. Yesterday we stopped at the Heinekenplein to pick up some groceries, and it was literally packed with outdoor patios and people enjoying an after-work biertje.
I can already tell that this is going to be a great spring/summer in Amsterdam. Our neighbourhood is full of people lazing around outdoors, and Sarphati park is the place to congregate to play soccer or frisbee.
I visited the Albert Cuyp today to get some food for lunch. My first stop was the fruit stand, then on to the cheese man, then the veggie lady, then the chicken lady, and then the broodbakker (bakery). I love going from stall to stall and slowly collecting my food. It always tastes so much better than going to Albert Heijn or Dirk. Today we ate our first meal of the season out on our back deck. It's so tiny, but it's a small respite from the loud city and trams that rush by our front windows. With the food that I bought this morning at the market, I made freshly squeezed lemonade, chicken sandwiches on a ciabatta, and grapes. Yum.
Meals taste so much better outside, and I can tell that this will be the start of many out there!

Looks so good & sounds like a lot of fun to do the shopping at the Albert Cuyp market for a change of pace. The weather has just been awesome & I hope it holds up for a few more weeks, at least ;-)
Our new apartment has a terrace so I can't wait to have BBQ next summer.
That looks like such a cute and cozy balcony, Amsterdam must be gorgeous right now!
