Have you ever wondered…

…about some of the bloggers you read about? From time to time I seem to find myself wondering about a certain blogger’s favourite place to travel to, their life, or what inspires them. On a few of my favourite blogs, bloggers have posted Question and Answer posts, which I always find entertaining and fun to read. I’d like to do that here on Life Abroad this week, seeing as it might be a nice interruption from the overflow of South America-inspired posts.

I receive a lot of e-mail regarding living in Amsterdam, what resources to scout out before living abroad, and how to go about making a big move. From the best restaurant recommendations to more personal questions, I have enjoyed responding to each and every question I’ve received. So this is your opportunity to ask away, and learn a little bit more about my life (both abroad and here in Canada), if you’re interested!

Feel free to leave a question in the comments section, or send one over to life.abroad@yahoo.com!

When are you coming back to Amsterdam? And have you decided where to go on exchange yet?

This is a wonderful idea..kudos.
As an expat myself, it would be interesting to know which is the one most important thing that you felt you missed out on, as a result of your expat life? Just one thing..:)

Fantastic blog! I'm new to your blog, but I'll ask a question anyway.

I recently lived in Denmark for a while, and what I missed most about the US (esp Cali) was the food! Did you feel the same way when living abroad? What was the food/dish you missed most?

Hi Tami,
Thank you so much for your nice comments! I tried posting some comments on your blog, but realized that the word verification box is cut off and doesn't allow you to fill in the box...you'll see what I mean if you try to comment on your own blog!

Looks like we have something in common--I used to live in Holland, as well. Though Utrecht, not Amsterdam. I miss the quaintness of the whole country, and how everything was like a page out of a fairytale!

I want to know Everything and Anything. I plan on living in Europe one day, maybe when bf and I graduate and have had enough of California ... if that's at all possible?

Hi!
My name is Rio Pedersen and I will be traveling to Amsterdam this spring break and I was wondering if you could help me with a list of things that would be cool to see/do. I have been to a lot of places and each time I wish I had known cool things about the place before, or where to go, what shops are the best, what areas. I really love second-hand clothing, and finding really cool, unique things. Before traveling to Amsterdam, my family and I will be in Swaziland for 2 weeks on a mission trip so I probably wont be able to pack to much for Amsterdam. We will be staying in Amsterdam for 3 days, my mom said we could dedicate one to shopping, but the others we are going to the Bookcrossing.com convention since my parents are the founders. I'm only 14 so I won't be able to go to clubs or anything, and my parents will be there :)
Thanks!
-Rio

Hi Rio, thank you for your comment! For second-hand clothing, a trip to De Negen Straatjes (The Nine Streets) is where you'll find the majority of vintage clothing in Amsterdam; some of the best in the world. Here is a link to a website which describes the area and lists all of the stores in this region:

http://theninestreets.com/

It has really unique shopping and great stylish cafes as well, all within a 5 minute walk from The Dam Square. De Pijp neighbourhood, near the Heineken Brewery,is very fun and very popular with young people. It has the beautiful Albert Cuyp Market, and a wonderful restaurant, Bazaar, on the Albertcuypstraat. You won't be disappointed there! I encourage you to read my post, What Not to do in Amsterdam, to get a feel for what is worth skipping. The best way to see Amsterdam is by foot, so just wandering through the canal streets and stopping in at little cafes will give you a feel for what the city is really like.

Enjoy! Amsterdam is an amazing city :)
